Skip Hire Prices
Our UK skip hire price guide
This guide will help you compare costs and choose the right skip size before booking.
A few things to know before you book your skip
- Prices vary widely across the country.
- Most suppliers price skips based on their dimensions, meaning larger skips cost more (from 2-yard to 16-yard skips).
- Larger skips, such as 20-yard and 40-yard roll-on/roll-off skips, are priced based on haulage and tonnage.
- You can go straight to our booking page to get an instant, no-obligation quote by simply entering your postcode into the box.

*These skip prices were compiled before the start of the waste crisis and the 2026 USβIran war. Skip prices remain unstable due to several landfill closures across the country and the warβs impact on fuel prices. Some skip suppliers have implemented a fuel surcharge in addition to their current skip prices. You can read more about the waste crisis here.
Additional Factors That May Affect Skip Hire Prices
Road Permits
Skips placed on a driveway, in a garden or on private land do not require a road permit.
If you need to place a skip on a public highway or verge, you will need to have a skip road permit in place before the skip is delivered.
In most areas, skip road permits are organised through the local council by the skip supplier rather than the customer.
You can find more information about road permits in England and Wales here.
If you have ordered a skip with a road permit, it is important to ensure that there is enough space for the skip to be placed on the public highway.
As a general rule, you should ensure that there are at least two car lengths of space available.
There can be large fines for placing a skip on a public highway without permission. These fines can be up to Β£1,000.
Bay Suspensions
Bay suspensions are more common in the London area and can considerably increase the cost of hiring a skip.
If you need a bay suspension, you will probably need a road permit as well.
Wait and Load Service
You can avoid the need for a road permit and save on costs if you have the waste ready.
We can provide you with a wait and load service.
To comply with the rules, the lorry and driver must remain on site at all times while the skip is being loaded.
A wait and load service is normally priced with the first 30 minutes included. This can vary, with some companies allowing up to one hour.
Charges apply after this time and can range from Β£1 per additional minute upwards.

Plasterboard
Some suppliers charge extra for plasterboard.
Others allow plasterboard to account for up to 10% of the skipβs volume, but it must be bagged separately and placed on top of the other waste.
Hazardous Waste
Hazardous waste should always be handled with care, so always seek professional advice before making a skip booking.
Examples of hazardous waste include asbestos, fridges, freezers, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, fluorescent tubes and TV monitors.
These items are not permitted in a skip without prior authorisation and agreed costs.
You can check with us before the skip is delivered, and we will advise you.
Mattresses
Some suppliers charge extra for each mattress, with charges ranging from Β£20 to Β£130.
It can sometimes be cheaper to arrange a bulky waste collection service through your local council for these types of items.
Overloading Skips
Overloading a skip above the level-fill line can mean that you will need to pay an overload charge or remove some of the contents.
Every skip must be covered with a net or sheet while being transported back to the depot, as required by law.
If an overloaded skip is considered a dangerous load, the driver will refuse to take it to avoid jeopardising their licence.
The customer will be asked to make the load safe and may incur a wasted journey charge if the driver has to leave without collecting the skip.

POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants)
Some upholstered domestic seating may contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and must be collected and treated separately.
Suppliers charge per item, depending on its sizeβfor example, a settee or an individual cushion.
We can provide prices if you need to dispose of any of these items.
However, if your local council provides a bulky waste collection service, this might be a cheaper option.
Wasted Journeys
Wasted journey charges can be incurred if your skip cannot be delivered due to access issues or if the skip is not accessible on the day of collection.
You may also incur a wasted journey charge if the skip is overloaded.
Always check access before placing an order or arranging your skip collection.
Ensure that there is clear access to the skip from both the road and your driveway.
There must be no obstacles around or against the skip. These could include building and construction materials, pallets, tonne bags, machinery or vehicles.
Length of Hire
The normal skip hire period ranges from 7β14 days.
If you need the skip for longer, you may incur additional fees per day or per week.
Choosing the Right Skip Size
Skip hire prices generally increase with the size of the skip.
However, choosing a larger skip can sometimes be more economical than ordering a second smaller skip if you underestimate the amount of waste you need to remove.
Our available sizes range from 2-yard mini skips for smaller household projects to 16-yard maxi skips for larger quantities of light, bulky waste.
Not every skip size is available in every area.
For dimensions, capacities and advice on selecting the most suitable option, read our UK skip sizes guide.
Roll-On/Roll-Off Skip Prices
Unlike standard skips, 20-yard and 40-yard roll-on/roll-off containers are normally priced according to haulage and the weight of the waste collected.
Haulage prices can start from Β£160, with a minimum tonnage charge also applying.
Any additional tonnage will normally be charged after the container has been collected and weighed.
-
- A 20-yard roll-on/roll-off container may be suitable for soil and hardcore.
- A 40-yard container is generally intended for lighter, bulkier materials such as wood, metal and mixed waste rather than soil or hardcore.
