Skip Sizes Questions And Answers

Skip Sizes Questions

Worried about getting the right sized skip or have questions about skip sizes? Worry no more and check out our simple skip sizes explanations and answers to the most common skip size questions.

Skip Sizes Bigger Is Usually Cheaper

Hiring a skip can be a daunting task, especially if you have never done so before. It’s easy to under/overestimate which size is best for the job at hand. Remember it is always cheaper to hire one larger skip than two smaller skips that hold the same amount of waste. Do not be tempted to fill your skip over a level load, as this is likely to incur an over load charge.

There are many different skip sizes and prices that can be chosen from, from 2 yard skips to the massive 40 yard skip sizes.

Choosing the right skip really is a much simpler decision once you know how much they can hold and what they are best used for – see our skip sizes page for dimensions.

There’s Different Skip Sizes To Suit Every Need

2 yard mini skip: This is the smallest skip size available for hire, and can hold 20-30 bin bags. These skips are mainly used for small house or garden jobs.

3 yard midi skip: These are mainly used for kitchen or bathroom refits and can hold 25-35 bin bags (remember, the more you can break up the items the more you will be able to fit in). This is the smallest size available with a drop door, ideal if you need to wheelbarrow soil into the skip.

4 yard midi skip: These are also ideal for bathroom or kitchen refits, these have the same dimensions as the 3 yard however are 1ft deeper so gives that bit of extra room. These can hold 30-40 bin bags.

6 yard builders skip: These are good for bulky waste such as larger items of furniture. You can fit 50-60 bin bags in these.  This is the largest size with a drop door.

8 yard builders skip: These are the largest skips you can use for heavy waste such as soil and hard core, they can hold 60-80 bin bags.

12 yard maxi skip- These are ideal for large house clearances, and should be used mainly for light bulky waste. These can hold 80-100 bin bags. You will need an off road site for this size as most councils will not allow them on the road

14/16 yard maxi skip- These are the largest skips used before roll on/off skips, and can hold 120- 150 bin bags. These are used mainly for commercial projects, and should be used for light bulky waste.

20/40 yard Roll on/off- These are mainly used for large commercial projects and will normally be priced by the weight of the skip. Give us a call and we can find you a quote.
