HIRE A SKIP FOR YOUR SPRINGCLEAN

SPRING CLEAN HIRING A SKIP

Do you need to hire a skip for your spring clean? You can get an instant quote and book with us here. ‘Spring cleaning’ has its origins within many different traditions and cultures. These days, we all look forward to the better weather that Spring brings to give ourselves a kickstart! Windows are being opened to allow that lovely fresh air to flow through the house. In and out of the garden, using the shed again. Tidying the garage and the house and clearing any unwanted items that have been stuffed away during the Winter.

There are plenty of reasons to hire a skip and a good old ‘Spring Clean’ is as good as any! Jobs we’ve been avoiding for the last few months, using the awful weather as an excuse.

Technically, Spring across the UK is set from March 1st to May 31st but hey, who’s counting?! As soon as those days give us that little bit more light, we are still here to help you with all of your skip hire & waste recycling needs.

Skip Sizes

Do you need an idea of what skip size you might need? You can look at our guide to skip sizes here, and don’t forget if you want to hire a skip for the Easter period, book in advance as much as possible as Easter is the busiest time of year for every skip company.

Perhaps you’re looking to clear out the garden shed? There will be plenty in there for you to remove and recycle. We recommend a 4 yard skip for this type of job, with approximate dimensions of 3 feet high, 6 feet long and 4 feet wide. This should be perfect for old lawnmowers, shelving and racking, any old timber, garden furniture, tools, bicycles, BBQ’s, pots and decorating equipment. There can be some exceptions of course, paint tins/pots generally need to be dried out. Furniture with upholstered or foam/sponge filled cushions and covers could incur extra charges under the ‘POPS’ directive* Perhaps it’s the whole shed itself that you want to get rid of to make way for a new one? Wood, Metal or Composite, we can take it all.

Not quite ready to go outside just yet, but still looking to make some extra space? Then you could set your sights on the Loft, the Garage or just about any room in the House.

We’re all a little bit guilty of hanging on to things that we no longer need or use. The two most popular skip sizes for a household spruce up are once again, a 4 yard skip or a 6 yard skip with a rough dimension of 4 feet high, 8.5 feet long and 5 feet wide. Both of these size skips are available with a drop end which can make for easier loading, enabling you to walk in with your waste. Items might include broken or old Christmas/Seasonal decorations, Furniture, Lighting, Mirrors, Power tools, Plastic/Cardboard boxes, Clothing, Toys, Electronics – TV’s, Computers, Videos, Tiles, Aerials, Piping, Water Tank and Insulation products to name a few.

What can I put into a skip

Of course, not everything can be disposed of in a ‘standard’ skip and could require specialist removers.

Generally speaking, you can put most things into a skip that are not hazardous for example, wood, green waste, baths, sinks, toilets, plastics, cardboard, textiles, old toys, plant pots, metal, most electricals (not fridges or fridge freezers without prior agreement) ect…

We can also help you with any specialist waste, these sorts of articles might have hazardous qualities like Asbestos, Chemicals, Fuel & Oils. Pressurised containers like Gas Cylinders and Fire Extinguishers are also not accepted. Plasterboard can usually be taken, although it is classed as a contaminant and would need to be bagged up separately and placed on the skip at the end of loading. *National regulations implementing the global convention on:

* PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS (POPS)

What are POPS, banning or restricting harmful chemicals that persist in the environment, focusing on controlling their manufacture, use (with exceptions), storage, and destruction, especially in waste like old furniture and electronics, requiring strict management to protect human health and the environment. Key UK guidance covers identification, classification, and environmentally sound disposal or irreversible transformation of POPs-containing materials.
