New Scrap Metal Regulations Are Not Working For Skip Hire Firms

Are the new Scrap metal regulations working? Skip Hire businesses do not think so. We are still seeing metal being stolen from our skips. The customer still thinks it is acceptable to let people remove metal items from our skips because they get more room to fill their skips up. They do not realise that these people are probably claiming benefits, are unlicensed and not declaring the money earned from the scrap metal.

There is a major floor in the new regulations, as now most scrap metal dealers are now registered cheque cashers, which means the thieves still get cash for the scrap stolen and no checks are in place to ensure they are declaring their extra income. The government is missing out on extra tax revenue and not tackling benefit fraud.
